What are affirmations and how can they help you get over negative beliefs or issues or even helping you to achieve goals? In this article I will go over some simple strategies that anyone can do to keep them on track.

What is an affirmation?
An affirmation is a positive statement designed to counteract a negative belief that you possess. Often we have self limiting beliefs about ourselves and what we are capable of achieving. These self limiting beliefs often arise from childhood beliefs and circumstances surrounding our early lives or later lives. Often self limiting beliefs become self fulfilling prophecy's, meaning what ever it is we fear will appear in the present in some shape or form.

How can you get around your self limiting beliefs?
Have you ever heard a little voice in your head as you maybe weighing up whether to go ahead with something or not? DO you hear the pros and cons of each argument, and then go ahead with the 'logical' argument. This is part of your self limiting belief and one way of getting around that is to 'talk to yourself'. I know people say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, but believe me, talking to yourself in a good way will stop the negative thoughts and begin to replace them with positive thoughts.

There are several ways that you can use affirmations which are positive statements written in the present tense and personalized by you, to help you improve your positive thoughts and put feel good factors back into your life. You can write down a positive statement and read it out to yourself each day several times,the more you say it to yourself the more your mind will begin to believe it,it is really effective if you stand in front of a mirror, because your body actions will also play a big factor.

You may feel silly or stupid at first talking to yourself or making a statement you don't truly yet believe in, and your conscious mind may reject what you are saying as 'false and unachievable', but you need to persist with these actions over and over until your mindset begins to change and you believe in the statement yourself. Then you will see things begin to happen that you didn't think would happen.While repeating your affirmation, also change your body posture, stand or sit up straight, hold your head up and display a confident posture.
Another way to capture affirmations is to record your own voice, these days you can do this on your mobile phone, or on your computer. Again, listening back to your affirmation over and over will also help drill this message down to your sub conscious.
